A 50p top tax band would be anti-business

In The Sunday Times, a proposal by Ed Balls to increase the top rate of income tax to 50p in the pound for incomes over £150,000 was criticised as 'anti-business'. Featuring a quote by Mark Littlewood, the article stated that such a policy would be a disaster for economic growth and enterprise.

HMRC itself agreed with the IEA on this research stating in 2012 that if the policy was conducted long term would severely damage international competitiveness.
