Funding for lending loads risk on to the taxpayer

The UK Government recently announced that it will start giving out loans to small businesses, funded by the taxpayer.

Philip Booth argues that it is not the government who should provide financial support to small businesses. This means that taxpayers are bearing the risks if governments are providing businesses with money - risks that banks should be taking.
