Ruth Porter appeared on Channel 4 News to discuss the benefits system and the Philpott case.
Ms Porter argued that the Philpott case tells us a lot more about the criminal justice system than it does the welfare state. It does however challenge how a family living in this way can gain £55,000 a year in taxpayer money.
Ms Porter went on to argue that poverty groups have focused on government subsidies and neglected to address the underlying causes of poverty such as high living costs. It is not tenable to have a system in which citizens are better off on benefits than they are in work.
