Richard Wellings appeared on Channel 5 News to discuss the rise in rail fares.
The 4% rise is tough on commuters but the alternative is worse, tax payers shouldn’t be forced to subsidise a rail system that they don’t benefit from. According to government statistics, long distance commuters tend to be wealthier than the general population, and more than capable of getting to work. The complex structure introduced after privatisation increases pressure and forces up prices, therefore a reform and simplification of these structures is necessary if the public want lower prices.
