IEA estimates HS2 will cost £80 billion

Richard Wellings appeared on BBC News regarding the recent IEA study on HS2.

The IEA has argued that HS2 will cost nearly double the amount budgeted for by the government. The need for route changes, extra infrastructure and new transport links, and new tunnelling, will all add to the cost. Dr Wellings suggested that the money would be better spent on other transport projects which cost less and would generate a higher return for the taxpayer, and that HS2 is not good value for money.
