Lack of exercise, not calorie consumption driving obesity growth

The IEA features on Channel 4 News

A new study by Christopher Snowdon, Director of Lifestyle Economics at the IEA, features on Channel 4 News. The segment discusses the paper's findings, which argues that the rising level of obesity in the UK is down to a lack of physical activity rather than calorie consumption.

The Fat Lie, which uses evidence from DEFRA as well as a number of other surveys, concludes that the amount of calories eaten on average has fallen in recent decades. Consequently, increased weight gain is primarily due to a lack of exercise.
