Free schools must be allowed to make a profit if they are to grow in number, the founder of one of the schools says today. Toby Young predicts that under the current rules there will be no more than a few hundred free schools opened by 2015, with only a “fraction” run by parent or teacher groups.
He says that is unlikely to have a significant impact on public education in the country. “But several thousand could create a sustainable revolution.”
