Was 1976 really the best year?

Sir, While most people may have fond memories of one or all of Abba, Björn Borg and the Sex Pistols, the claim that people were happier in 1976 than they are today (reports, March 17 and T2, March 18) is little more than nostalgia masquerading as serious research.
