Lower living costs key to poverty relief

Mark Littlewood appears on BBC Radio London

Mark Littlewood appeared on BBC Radio London to discuss recent reforms to the welfare system.

Mr Littlewood argued that increasing welfare payments is not the solution for individuals on a low income. With the welfare bill costing on average £8000 per household, this option clearly is not working. Mr Littlewood stated that an alternative solution would be to look at an individual case and ask what can be done to increase the individual's earnings.

The government should also consider lowering the cost of living. The high costs of housing, food and energy should be lowered by, for example, removing regulation such as strict planning laws therefore allowing housing supply to increase resulting in lower prices.
