Minimum wage rise will make it harder for young and unskilled

Steve Davies appears on BBC R5 Live Drive

Following announcements of an increase in the National Minimum Wage (NMW), Steve Davies appeared on BBC Radio 5 to argue against the proposal.

Dr Davies stated that the increase will actually make it more difficult for young people and unskilled people to enter the job market. It will make those already in work marginally better off but acts as a barrier to those trying to get a first step on the job ladder. Dr Davies went on to argue that the NMW rise may push those on the "cusp" into unemployment i.e. businesses may decide it is not "taking a chance" and employing them.
