Not all privatisations have ended in disaster

Steve Davies appears on BBC Radio Merseyside

Steve Davies appeared on BBC Radio Merseyside to discuss Royal Mail.

The government has said that the universal flat rate will continue after the privatisation of Royal Mail, however Dr. Davies argued that it will be difficult for this policy to survive. Although it may seem unfair to charge some more purely because they live in rural areas, it also seems unfair for those who live in cities to subsidise those who live in the middle of nowhere. Dr. Davies argued that not all privatisation goes wrong, for instance the privatisation of the telephone service has worked extremely well, and if the transition is handled well, there should be no problem with the hand over of Royal Mail either.
