Evidence that attractive packaging encourages young people to start smoking is feeble. Australia have become guinea pigs and only time will tell the impact on smokers or the black market, and although tobacco is bad for public health, if it comes from an illicit source it can become even more dangerous. We shouldn’t take a leap in the dark over a matter that could cost millions of pounds to the tobacco industry.
