Rating GPs is desirable to improve patient choice

Mark Littlewood appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live to discuss the naming and shaming of doctors who fail to diagnose cancer repeatedly.

He argued that doctors should be rated if they are inadequate in diagnosing serious illnesses. Lots of areas of modern life are rated, be it hotels, cars or restaurants, and it would be desirable to know which GPs surgeries are good at diagnosing cancer, and which are not. Rating GPs on something which is potentially a life and death issue would thus be a good move.
