Robust system needed to ensure efficient welfare allocation

Stephanie Lis appears on BBC Radio Wales

Stephanie Lis appeared on BBC Radio Wales to discuss reform of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

Considering that more than 70% of DLA claimants are entitled to the allowance for life, Ms Lis argued that it is important to ensure that these benefits are going to the right people. As conditions may change for better or worse, claimants must be reassessed to ensure that resources are being allocated efficiently.

Ms Lis stated that the welfare state is there as a safety net for those genuinely in need. DLA expenditure is double that allocated to unemployment benefits so we must ensure that it is being optimally spent.
