Steve Davies appeared on BBC Radio WM to discuss the merits of privatising Royal Mail.
Dr Davies stated that the case for privatisation is that the Royal Mail must be updated and improved. There has been a radical change in the past 20 to 30 years in the environment in which the Royal Mail operates. Dr Davies argued that these changes require privatisation in order to give the management and employees of the Royal Mail to become more efficient and to innovate.
Dr Davies also went on to argue that the Royal Mail hasn't changed at the same pace as its environment and this has resulted in deterioration of its service. This is because of the structure of the company and the way it is run which must be "shaken up". This could be most easily done if the company is run privately.
