A government crusade to slash energy bills could end up with people paying more, it was claimed yesterday.
Firms will have to put customers on best-price tariffs by summer 2014 — but overall bills may rise if the suppliers remove current cheap deals, experts warned.
Mark Littlewood, of the Institute of Economic Affairs, said: “Restricting the tariffs companies can offer will constrain consumer choice and have the perverse effect of pushing prices up for some.”
