Smoking ban in cars is too far

Mark Littlewood appears on BBC R4's PM

Following recent calls for a smoking ban in cars with children in, Mark Littlewood discussed his concerns with such a ban.

"I'm opposed to this move. I think there's a danger in all sorts of ways that the Government is actually replacing parents in terms of responsible treatment of children. If we're going to ban smoking in cars, why can't we also ban it in people's homes if children are present?" asked Mr Littlewood.

"It seems to me that the logical step from this is that we actually start regulating tobacco smoking in people's homes and I think that is a step too far."

Mr Littlewood went on to state that we need to increasingly rely on the discretion and intelligence of adult smokers rather than regulation and instruction from the state.
