Spare room subsidies are unfair to taxpayer

Steve Davies appears on BBC Radio Humberside

Following Government announcements of the removal empty bedroom subsidies, Steve Davies discussed the policy on BBC Radio Humberside.

"It's not a perfect measure and it's only part of what we really need as a comprehensive solution but we do think that on balance it's worth doing," stated Dr Davies.

Dr Davies went on to argue that there is a problem with the huge amount spent on housing benefits and the mismatch between the population and available housing stock. A further solution to the policy would be to change the planning laws to allow more homes to be built so that public housing could be allocated more fairly.

"Is it fair for the taxpayer to pay for them to stay in the house when they may not be using all the rooms in the house?"
