Tax breaks will not solve childcare problems

Stephen Davies appears on BBC Radio Tees

Following Government proposals to introduce tax breaks for childcare, Steve Davies appeared on BBC Radio Tees arguing against the proposal.

Regarding speculation that the proposed policy change is purely for electoral reasons, Dr Davies argued that this is unlikely to be the case. He stated that, following a recent report, there is a widespread perception across the political spectrum that childcare is in crisis. However, this policy will not solve the issue as it makes the system more complicated by creating a new additional stream for childcare funding and also forces the taxpayer to subsidise it.
