The arts do not require taxpayer subsidy

Dr Steve Davies speaks to BBC Radio 5 Live

On the day that it is announced that a new £55m scheme will be launched to help arts organisations develop long-term funding plans, Dr Steve Davies, IEA Education Director, joins a discussion on BBC Radio 5 Live's Tony Livesey show and says that the arts do not require taxpayer subsidy. State funding is a relatively recent development, he says, and prior to it emerging in the 1960s, Britiain had a perfectly thriving arts sector.
