The government should get out the way to help create jobs

Mark Littlewood appears on BBC Radio Kent

Mark Littlewood discussed the high number of workless households in Kent. The government has spent more and more on increasing numbers of schemes to a bewildering lack of effect. If government spending on schemes created jobs, then we would not have the unemployment we see today. The government should get out of the way to create an environment to make it easy for businesses to grow and easy for businesses to employ people.

He said that the universal credit scheme -  which merges five work related benefits - may help. If the government can carry this out well and change the welfare system in order to encourage work, it will make a difference.
