The living wage: well intentioned but misguided

Mark Littlewood appears on the Daily Politics

Mark Littlewood appeared on the Daily Politics to discuss the living wage. Boris Johnson said that the new living wage made good economic sense, a statement that Mark Littlewood disagreed with, calling it outdated.

This is a well intentioned but misguided policy, Littlewood argued. Familial circumstances vary widely, altering how much each person requires to live on and rendering a living wage arbitrary. A policy of naming and shaming those who do not play a living wage, as proposed by the Labour Party is an outdated and counter-productive policy.

Littlewood reaffirmed his belief that the minimum wage should be abolished in order to create jobs. He argued that this would give young people an opportunity to get onto the employment ladder in order to earn more money in the future.
