Universal tax credit will help millions of households

Dr Steve Davies speaks to BBC Radio London

Dr. Steve Davies discussed the government’s plans to make benefits simpler and more cost effective.

He explained how the new universal tax credit will replace six different benefits that are tax credit based. This will make 2.7 million households better off, and on average 1 million will receive £25 a week more than they do under the current system.

He discussed the problems the government reforms are trying to address. The assumption should not be made that because someone can’t work at one point in their life that they can never work again.
