VAT rise - We got into this trouble by spending too much

Prof Philip Booth and Dr Richard Wellings interviewed for BBC radio

Following the rise in VAT from 17.5% to 20%, Prof Philip Booth spoke to 5 Live Drive (starts at 0:09:00) on BBC Radio 5 Live and Dr Richard Wellings spoke to Simon Hoban (starts at 01:08:15) on BBC Merseyside, arguing that the government's focus to deficit-reduction should be on cuts to public spending rather than rises in taxation. As Prof Booth points out: "We didn't get into this problem as a result of being taxed too little, we got into it as a result of spending too much."
