Mark Littlewood discusses a leaked document which suggests nineteen NHS trusts in the southwest are considering scrapping staff contracts as a way to cut costs, meaning doctors and nurses could be sacked and rehired for less pay.
He argues broadly in favour of the plans saying that we must realise that the NHS is not affordable and sustainable on its current basis and may double in cost in real terms by 2030. Substantial pay rises in last 30 years have not been matched by a commensurate increase in productivity and considerable savings must be made.
