Monetary policy decisions - Andrew Sentance

Former MPC member Andrew Sentance has been a strong critic of the Bank of England’s monetary policy over the past couple of years. ieaTV caught up with him at our State of the Economy conference to ask what advice he’d give the MPC for policy now. Sentance has called for a medium-term policy of interest rate normalisation, and is concerned about the shock to the business community if rates had to rise sharply in future. In this video, he is deeply critical of Bank of England governor Mark Carney’s forward guidance and the apparent lack of debate observed about the UK’s current extraordinary monetary policy.
