From November, people over 60 will no longer receive subsidised long-distance coach travel - known as the Coach Concessionary Travel Scheme. Dr Steve Davies, Education Director at the IEA, speaks to BBC Radio Nottingham's Andy Whittaker show and argues that it is a benefit that should be cut. If it deemed desirable to encourage the elderly to travel, this should be done through targeted benefits (as opposed to the blanket nature of the scheme now) or by simply increasing the amount of cash that pensioners receive. They themselves can then decide what their own priorities are.
