Ruth Porter spoke to BBC Radio Merseyside about the worse than expected GDP figures. She commented on how disappointing growth is becoming a recurring theme as the economy becomes increasingly stagnant.
She argued that Plan A reductions in public spending haven't gone far enough, discussing how increases in taxes such as VAT have been incredibly detrimental. She also emphasised that we have not actually seen very much austerity as in reality cuts have not been implemented widely. Ruth highlighted the need for the government to help private businesses through planning liberalisation and employment deregulation.
