It is time the government committed to fending off special interests. When it came to power this government said it would tackle lobbying but instead they have found themselves hemmed in by it on every side.
Substantial, considered, comprehensive change is the only answer to the crisis Britain faces. The dismal GDP figures are yet further evidence that our economy is crying out for a boost to productivity in the form of supply-side reform, public spending reductions and tax cuts. Yet, the chances of such action occurring are rapidly disappearing.
Almost every attempt the government makes to reform is prevented by special pleading from one lobby group or another. Worse still, in some cases industry wins even more concessions and in some instances lobbying has even induced disastrous u-turns.
