Gabriel Sahlgren appeared on BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire to discuss IEA research on the health risks of retirement.
Mr Sahlgren stated that the goal of the report is not to force people to work longer, but to foster a healthy work-retirement balance. The report states that when comparing retirees and those of the same age that are continuing to work, working people are more likely to suffer from clinical depression and a diagnosed medical illness. Though there is initially a positive effect from retirement, after a couple of years there is a drastic decline in health.
