IEA Director of Lifestyle Economics Christopher Snowdon spoke about the Labour Party's proposals to introduce a ban on smoking in cars. He argued not to believe the rhetoric given by Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham that this is about children, but is rather a concerted effort by the government to ban smoking altogether.
The danger of banning smoking altogether is that it is then left unregulated in the black market where more serious health impacts can occur. Also, it imposes a risk on adults individual freedoms who choose to smoke of their own free choice and will.
