IEA Director of Lifestyle Economics Christopher Snowdon was on BBC Radio Four discussing the issue of the advertisement of e-cigarettes. He argued that e-cigarettes provide a helpful alternative for conventional smokers, which has been as effective in helping people quit as using nicotine gum or patches. Furthermore, he argued that there is no evidence of a gateway effect of e-cigarettes, as critics have claimed. Chris also argued that more is known about what is in these e-cigarettes than conventional cigarettes, with there being no evidence of any harmful substances.
