In the twenty-eighth IEA Current Controversies Paper, Philip Booth examines the case for fair trade. While there may be some positive aspects of fair trade, the author suggests that the way it is promoted in schools and churches is totally inappropriate. Fair trade organisations will also end up doing more harm than good for the very poorest when they campaign against trade liberalisation, one of the best ways of promoting long-term economic growth in the developing world.
