Results of IEA Student Essay Competition 2005 Announced
We finally have the results! Our essay competition details were circulated to schools at the end of November 2004 and the deadline was March 1st 2005. We asked students to discuss one of the following in 1500 words or less:
• Can a person be forced to be free? What restrictions should be placed on each individual’s freedom to gamble?
• Should gambling be prohibited, taxed, regulated or treated like any other activity?
The judges were impressed with the quality of the entries and awarded the following prizes:
1st prize £1000: Oliver Troop (Wilson’s School, Wallington);
2nd prizes £500 each: John Citron (Highgate School); James Ellis (Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe); Christopher Shaw (Birkdale School).
Honourable mentions: Sumaiya Akram (Cherwell School, Oxford); Alice Pye (Lancing College); Zaki Rafiq-Khatana (Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe); Peter Ritchie (Clitheroe Grammar School); Jamal Saleh (Lancing College); Eleanor Smith (Germanna Community College); Harry Thomas (Christ College, Brecon).
Congratulations! Well done!
